Petition demanding the enforcement of Malta’s dangerous animals and zoos regulations

Updated: 6 days ago

Vuċi għall-Annimali and Animal Liberation Malta have launched a petition demanding the enforcement of Malta’s dangerous animals and zoos regulations. This comes in the wake of the recent case of five illegally caged lions and a leopard in Naxxar, which were moved to Rabat but continue to live in unsuitable conditions.

The petition calls for several demands, including:

1. Immediate Confiscation of the Naxxar Lions and Leopard – These animals should be relocated to a reputable international sanctuary for proper care and rehabilitation.

2. Full Enforcement of Animal Welfare Laws – Stronger actions against illegal zoos and facilities, including legal accountability for those breaching the law.

3. Enforcement of the Ban on Petting in Zoos – Enforcing the ban on the petting of wild or dangerous animals.

4. Mandatory Neutering and Regular Vet Visits – Enforcing the new neutering regulations and annual check-ups by specialised vets for all dangerous animals.

5. Creation of a National DNA Registry – To monitor and track dangerous animals and ensure legal compliance.

6. Transition to a Positive List of Animals – Create a list of animals that are acceptable as pets and ban the trade and importation of exotics.

“We need to protect the lives of these animals and ensure that Malta’s laws are fully enforced,” said Althea Galea  from Vuċi għall-Annimali.

The petition is now live at https://www.vucighallannimali.com/petition, and we encourage everyone to support this vital cause.

This press release is issued by Vuci ghall-Annimali, a TV show and media content house, and Animal Liberation Malta, advocating for a fair and compassionate approach to animal welfare.
